Many manufacturing enterprises are unable to distinguish between force-controlled floating grinding heads and conventional robotic grinding heads, and are unclear about the scenarios in which each type of equipment is suitable, leading to errors in the design of automated grinding systems. Simply put, robotic grinding heads are power execution units, while force-controlled floating grinding heads are flexible adjustment units, with fundamentally different functional roles.

The primary function of a standard robot grinding head is to rotate the grinding tool and provide the power needed for grinding and cutting. It does not have adaptive cushioning capabilities and follows the robot’s movement trajectory exactly. This type of operation is rigid. If there is an error in the surface of the workpiece, there will be a hard contact, which can easily cause scratches on the workpiece.

The force control floating polishing head features integrated sensors and a floating mechanism within its structure. Its primary function is to enable adaptive pressure regulation. It is typically installed in series between the robot’s flange and the robot’s polishing head. During operation, it dynamically buffers impacts, maintains a constant polishing pressure, and addresses various challenges associated with rigid polishing.


Standardized processing of flat workpieces results in high-precision raw materials, which can be met with a single robotic polishing head. For the processing of die-cast parts, irregularly shaped curved parts, and thin-walled components, it is recommended to use a combination of two sets of equipment. Enterprises can make reasonable arrangements based on the precision requirements and tolerance ranges of their products to avoid excessive investment or inadequate equipment performance.
